How to Add a Sports Schedule to Google Calendar

Quick answer

If the team’s website has a “Sync calendar” or “Subscribe” button on its schedule page, copy that link and add it in Google Calendar under Other calendars → + → From URL, and it will stay updated. If all you have is a PDF, a photo, or a screenshot of the schedule, upload it to a schedule reader like Classmaite, which pulls out every game with its date, start time, and location and adds them to Google Calendar in one step.

What one upload looks like: a whole class on Google Calendar, color-coded, with every reading, quiz and exam.

A season schedule is twelve to thirty dates, half of them with a start time you will forget and a location you will have to look up. Typing that into Google Calendar one game at a time takes twenty minutes and usually goes wrong at game nine.

There are three ways to do it properly. Which one fits depends on what the team gives you: a live calendar link, a listing in Google’s own sports calendars, or just a PDF, a photo, or a screenshot someone posted in the group chat.

Option 1: Subscribe to the team’s calendar feed (best if it exists)

Most college athletics sites and many pro and club team sites have a button on the schedule page labelled something like “Sync calendar”, “Subscribe”, or “Add to calendar”. It gives you an .ics link. A subscribed link is the best option because the team keeps it current: when a kickoff time is announced or a game moves, your calendar updates on its own.

  • On the team’s schedule page, click the sync or subscribe button and copy the link it gives you (it usually starts with webcal:// or ends in .ics)
  • On a computer, open Google Calendar, find Other calendars in the left sidebar, and click the +
  • Choose From URL, paste the link, and click Add calendar
  • Give it its own color. You can hide the whole season with one click when you want a clean week view

Option 2: Use Google Calendar’s built-in sports calendars

Google Calendar has a directory of sports calendars. On a computer, click the + next to Other calendars, choose Browse calendars of interest, and open Sports. Pick the sport, then the league, then tick your team. The games appear as their own calendar and update automatically.

Coverage is best for major pro leagues. If your team is not listed, and most intramural, club, high school, and youth teams are not, go back to Option 1 or use Option 3.

Option 3: Turn a PDF, photo, or screenshot into calendar events

A lot of schedules never exist as a calendar link: a coach’s PDF, an intramural bracket, a practice sheet taped to a locker room door, a screenshot of a team’s Instagram post. Google Calendar cannot read any of those.

Classmaite can. Upload the PDF, a Word doc, or a photo or screenshot of the schedule. It reads each game or meeting and lists it with the date, the start time, and the location or opponent (“vs Alabama”, “at Georgia”). You check the list, fix anything it misread, and send it to Google Calendar, or download an .ics file for Apple Calendar or Outlook. It takes about thirty seconds.

Games with a listed time become real timed events, blocked out on your calendar with a reminder. Games marked TBA come in as all-day events. When the time is announced, open the event and set it.

Or do it by hand with a CSV

Google Calendar can also import a spreadsheet. Make a sheet with these headers in the first row, one game per row, then download it as a .csv and import it on a computer under Settings → Import & export → Import:

  • Subject: the matchup, for example “vs Alabama” or “at Georgia”
  • Start Date: MM/DD/YYYY, for example 10/10/2026
  • Start Time: for example 7:00 PM (leave blank if TBA)
  • End Time: optional. Put about three hours after the start for a football game
  • All Day Event: False for timed games, True for TBA
  • Location: the stadium or city

Which one should you use?

If the team offers a feed, subscribe to it. Nothing else updates itself when a time changes. If the team is in Google’s sports directory, that is two clicks. For everything else, like club and intramural teams, practice schedules, a younger sibling’s league, or the PDF the coach emailed, read the schedule in rather than typing it. Then check the dates against the original once.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add a sports schedule to Google Calendar on my phone?

Not with a subscription link or a file import: the Google Calendar phone app cannot add calendars from a URL or import files. Do those steps on a computer or in a phone browser set to desktop view, and the games then show up in the app. Classmaite works on a phone, including uploading a screenshot of the schedule.

Why are the game times wrong in my calendar?

Almost always a time zone mismatch. Schedules often list times in the home team’s zone, or in Eastern time for TV. Check which zone the schedule uses and make sure the events are created in that zone. In Classmaite you can pick the time zone on the review screen before anything is added.

Will the calendar update if a game time changes?

Only a subscribed feed updates itself, whether it comes from the team’s website or Google’s sports directory. Events you import from a file, a CSV, or a PDF are a snapshot, so when a time is announced or a game moves, edit that event.

How do I remove the whole season later?

Keep the games on their own calendar. A subscribed calendar can be removed from Other calendars in one click. Classmaite puts its events on a separate Classmaite calendar in your Google account, so they never mix with your own events.
